  14. 1 cup spinach or palak puree
  15. For tempering
  16. 2 tablespoons ghee or clarified butter
  17. 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  18. 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  19. 5-6 garlic cloves vertically thinely chopped
  20. 5-6 curry leaves
  21. 2 dry red chillies
  22. Pinch asafoetida

  1. Wash & soak dals & rice for half an hour.
  2. Add turmeric powder & salt. Cook in pressure cooker for 6 whistles.
  3. Heat oil. Add onion & ginger.
  4. When onion become brownish, add tomatoes. Saute for 3 minutes on medium flame.
  5. Grind spinach leaves. Our spinach puree in cooking onion tomatos. Cover & cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Add cumin coriander powder, red chili powder & garam masala.
  7. Add cooked yellow khichdi, pour some water. Make it liquidy. Cover lid & cook for 8 to 10 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  8. Heat small kadhai, add ghee. When ghee heats add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asaefoetida, dry red chillies, garlic cloves.
  9. Pour tempering on khichdi. Serve hot with salad.
